With a broad educational background, Dr. Toribara graduated with his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1981. He then went on to perform his residency in internal medicine and his postdoctoral fellowships in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. 

From 1998 until 2009, he served as an Associate Professor within the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver and as the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Denver Health Medicine Center.

With his research efforts focused on colon cancer, Dr. Toribara special interests include molecular biology of gastrointestinal mucins, gastric protection by mucins, and colon cancer prevention strategies.
