He furthered his training by completing a fellowship in advanced oncologic head and neck surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, working with some of the top surgeons in the field.
Subsequent to his education, he attained board certification in otolaryngology through the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. It is a non-profit organization with the mission of ensuring professional standards in this field since 1924.
Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Wirtz is an active member of the American Head and Neck Society and the American Academy of Otolaryngology.
Licensed to practice medicine in Kansas and Missouri, he is affiliated with Research Medical Center – Kansas City, Menorah Medical Center, and Cass Regional Medical Center.
Otolaryngology is the oldest medical specialty in the United States. They generally provide the following services: diagnosis and treatment of ENT disorders, as well as head and neck diseases. Otolaryngologists provide their services to patients across the lifespan from newborn through geriatric. These services include both medical and surgical management of ENT disorders. Dr. Wirtz’s volunteer / leadership experience includes: San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala medical mission clinician for the Medical Missions Foundation of Kansas City (2012); Tecolutla, Mexico medical mission co-director and clinician for students interested in Global Health for Tomorrow (SIGHT) & the University of Missouri School of Medicine, 2009; Antigua, Guatemala medical mission clinical volunteer for the Medical Missions Foundation of Kansas City (2008).
Among his various accolades include: 2017 Joseph Carter Award for Clinical Excellence; 2016 Albert Hohmann Research Award; 2014 Outstanding Surgical Consultant; 2013 Lions Research Grant Award; and 2012 Clinical Research Award.
