Normand S. Boucher, DDS, an Orthodontist with Boucher Orthodontics

Get to know Orthodontist Dr. Normand S. Boucher, who serves patients in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Boucher of Boucher Orthodontics offers orthodontic treatment including Invisalign® and sleep apnea treatment to patients in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Known in the community, he is privileged to treat patients in an atmosphere that allows for outstanding clinical results in a caring and comfortable setting. With patients ranging from children and teenagers to adults, his clinical experience, combined with his well-trained and caring staff, will provide individual care to ensure a healthy, aesthetic, and functional smile.

A high standard of care and orthodontic excellence begins with diagnostic records that are comprehensive. Dr. Boucher has invested time and treasures to develop a protocol where all of his patients are diagnosed in terms of the relationship of their teeth, the health of the bone and gum tissues supporting the teeth, the growth pattern of the jaws, the health of the temporomandibular joints, the status of the airway, and the function of the tongue.

His belief is that the orthodontic treatment he provides not only results in great smiles but with added value in long term stability of the bite and the health of the surrounding tissue of the head and neck.

Before seeking specialty training in orthodontics and periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Boucher practiced as a family dentist for five years. The last twenty-nine years have been a rewarding balancing act between family life and his wife Lynda and daughters Anne-Marie and Patrice, the practice of orthodontics, teaching, volunteer work, and a never-ending commitment to learning.

From 1982 until 1987, Dr. Boucher was appointed Chief of Orthodontics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He subsequently established a full-time private practice in Wayne and Westtown in 1987. His teaching responsibilities with the orthodontic department at the University of Pennsylvania reflect the values of his private practice and include teaching diagnosis and treatment planning for the Six Elements of Orofacial Harmony Orthodontics Philosophy. This approach to treatment emphasizes the health and stability of the bite while achieving optimal aesthetic outcomes.

With his experience as a general dentist and additional training in the specialty of periodontics, Dr. Boucher is also recognized for his expertise in adult orthodontic treatment.  His teaching responsibilities include the orthodontic management of the complex patient with multidisciplinary needs.

Over the last decade, Dr. Boucher has received extensive training in hard and soft tissue imaging of the TMJ (temporomandibular joint). Since many “TMJ” patients have less than optimal bites that can contribute to their TMJ condition and facial pain pattern, this added clinical dimension has enhanced the level of patient care. This new direction led to the purchase of a low radiation, digital, three-dimensional imaging system to provide the state-of-the-art diagnostic capability for adolescents and adults.

Most recently, Dr. Boucher and the entire clinical staff completed a course in “Myofunctional Therapy” which is the study of the function of the tongue, swallowing, and speech. The principles of myofunctional therapy are now dovetailed into the orthodontic care of most of the adolescent and adult patients in his practice and provide added value to treatment outcomes by improving breathing, the health of the TMJ’s, and the stability of the bite.

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Boucher is an active member of the Angle Society, a Director with the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontics, and serves on the Council of Insurance with the American Association of Orthodontics.

Locally, he has served as President of the Academy of Stomatology, President of the Pennsylvania Association of Orthodontics, President of the Main Line Dental Society, and as a board member for the French International School of Philadelphia. He has also served as a Delegate to the American Association of Orthodontics.

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. Orthodontists are responsible for identifying problems with the positioning of a patient’s teeth and with their oral development. They utilize the most advanced procedures and equipment available to ensure that every patient achieves a healthy and beautiful smile.

With a belief in the importance of “giving back” to his profession, Dr. Boucher has been active as a volunteer in orthodontics.

During his spare time, he is committed to rigorous physical exercise which includes occasional local road races.  He is also a blissfully happy high handicap golfer and low key bridge player.
