Margaret graduated with her nursing degree from the North Park University in 1980, as a nurse practitioner, giving her over three decades of experience in her field. In 1982 she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lewis University. Wanting to further her education she then completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree in 1999 at Northern Illinois University and her postmaster certificate in Adult Nurse Practice in 2005 at North Park university. To stay up to date in her field she remains a professional member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She currently practices as an educator with North Park University and Chamberlain University. She also works at NorthShore University Health system, which she joined in 1983.

Nurse Practitioners are registered nurses with specialized educational and clinical training in family practice. Nurse practitioners have a higher degree of training, in both the classroom and clinical setting, than Registered Nurses do, although becoming an RN is a prerequisite.
