Get to know Interventional Pain Management Specialist Dr. Obinna Orji, who serves patients in Pennsylvania.

Being an interventional pain management specialist, Dr. Orji treats all his patients with care and dignity. He cares for each patient as he would want a provider to care for one of his family members.

Licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, Wisconsin, Delaware and Pennsylvania, he is affiliated with St. Mary Medical Center, HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital, Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, Southwest Health-Platteville, and Watertown Regional Medical Center.

As a child, Dr. Orji was always in and out of the hospital setting for multiple reasons. Each time he saw his doctor represented a moment of renewed hope and optimism. He wanted to have a career where he could provide that same hope to others every time they interacted.

Embarking upon his academic journey, Dr. Orji graduated with his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 2012. He then went on to perform his residency in anesthesiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in 2016, followed by his fellowship in pain management at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2017.

That same year, he attained board certification in both anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). The mission of the ABA is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

Interventional pain management or interventional pain medicine is a medical subspecialty which treats pain with invasive interventions such as facet joint injections, nerve blocks, neuroaugmentation, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, nucleoplasty, endoscopic discectomy, and implantable drug delivery system. Interventional pain management physicians focus on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Orji enjoys spending free time with his wife and daughters, as well as playing and watching sports, including playing basketball in his town’s recreational league. He also enjoys teaching/tutoring math and still finds time to do so through various platforms.
