Dr. Dryer received his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Iowa in 1974.  He continued his studies and graduated from the University of Iowa medical school with an M.D. in 1977. In 1978, Dr. Dryer completed his internship, followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery in 1982 at the University of Iowa. Later, he finished a fellowship in spine surgery at New Addenbrooks Hospital in Cambridge, England.

Following his educational achievements, Dr. Dryer served in the United States Air Force at Wilford Hall, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He progressed from staff orthopedist to Chief of Orthopedic Surgery by 1988. Then, Dr. Dryer entered private practice in Austin, Texas at The Austin Back Clinic in 1988. Together with his team, the practice expanded and became the Central Texas Spine Institute.

Dr. Dryer has been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and he provides both surgical and non-surgical treatments for many conditions and traumas, but he is particularly known for his expertise as a spine surgeon. Among the expert procedures undertaken by him are spinal fusion and spinal cord stimulation, herniated disc surgery, spinal nerve block, and cervical disc replacement.

Orthopaedic surgeons, like Dr. Dryer, are devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Some orthopaedists are generalists, while others specialize in certain areas of the body, others specialty focuses include shoulder and elbow, hand, and spine.
