Dr. Osvaldo I. Lopez, MD, is the senior founding partner of the Chicago Eye Institute, providing state-of-the-art eye care in the Chicagoland Area. He has also held the position of Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for more than two decades, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his practice.
A Northwestern University alumnus, Dr. Lopez earned both the Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees. Following medical school, he completed an internship at Northwestern’s Passavant Memorial Hospital.
His unwavering commitment to advancing the field of ophthalmology led him to complete his residency training at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Lopez pursued further specialty training, concentrating in diseases of the cornea, at the renowned Texas Institute of Ophthalmology at Baylor University.
As a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Lopez is celebrated for his exceptional surgical skills and innovative techniques. He has been instrumental in introducing groundbreaking procedures such as IntraLase LASIK surgery and pioneering treatments for conditions like keratoconus using corneal implants. His contributions have earned him accolades, including the Lincoln Medal for Medicine from the State of Illinois, recognizing his outstanding achievements in the medical field.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Lopez is a dedicated educator, sharing his expertise through teaching engagements and visiting professorships worldwide. He is on the faculty of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he inspires the next generation of medical professionals.
