A board-certified hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Kebriaei serves as the Cancer Medicine Director, Stem Cell Transplant Outpatient Clinic Medical Director, and Professor within the Department of Stem Cell Transplantation, Division of Cancer Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has one of the largest stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy programs in the world, performing more than 850 transplants and cell therapy infusions annually in adults and children. Their extensive expertise in the treatment of advanced blood cancers is aided by applying highly effective stem cell transplant methodologies using fully or partially matched donors and umbilical cord blood. In addition, their department offers a full range of services through their cell processing laboratory, including stem cell collection, manufacturing, infusion, and treatment of the patient.
Academically, Dr. Kebriaei received her Bachelor of Science degree from Yale University in 1993, and her medical degree from the University of Texas at Houston Medical School in 1997. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, and completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Chicago in 2000. She joined the stem cell transplant department at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) in 2003.
As a testament to her success, the doctor is board-certified in hematology, medical oncology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Continuously advancing her efforts, Dr. Kebriaei is an active member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
An avid researcher, her research interests include therapy of leukemias, in particular acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and she has led the development of the transplant program in ALL. She is also interested in the development of novel transplant preparative regimens that may have less regimen-related toxicity, and increased disease efficacy.
More specifically, Dr. Kebriaei is interested in investigating the use of traditional chemotherapeutic agents in combination with cellular therapies and adoptive immunotherapy to develop more effective treatment regimens. Work toward this aim includes investigating the use of CD19-directed T cell therapy for lymphoid malignancies, and investigating the use of mesenchymal stromal cells for the therapy of graft versus host disease.
Finally, she has been involved in the development of the CARTOX committee, a cross-disciplinary committee to oversee the safe administration of cellular therapy treatments. She is also the principal investigator of 10 currently active phase I/II clinical trials at MDACC, has authored numerous reviews, book chapters, and papers, and serves as a reviewer for major hematology and oncology publications.

Bodey Award for Excellence in Education (2021), Waun Ki Hong Award for Excellence in Team Science (2017), Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Award (2011), Merit Award by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (2003), and Molecular Biology Workshop Award by the American Association for Cancer Research (2002).
