Get to know Registered Nurse, Certified Nurse, Operating Room & Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, Patricia A. Brook, who served patients in Mansfield, Ohio.

Patricia is a registered nurse, certified in Operating Room Nursing, Legal Nurse Consulting, and Faith Community Nursing, who is retired from practice. During her active years on the job, she served patients at Med Central Hospital, now known as OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, where she retired from its OR after 47 years. She spent the last years at Med Central OR as evening charge nurse.  Her favorite surgical area was neuro, especially craniotomies.

She coached a “Healthy U ” class and was a volunteer Ombudsman for the local Area Agency on Aging.  She was an advocate for surgical patients who could not speak for themselves while under anesthesia and for all patients in nursing homes. She learned to use her assertiveness from working with surgeons and became aggressive on moral and criminal issues while on the Mansfield City Council, where she served after being elected. 

Back in 1963, Patricia earned her nursing degree from Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing before embarking on her professional journey. She attended the University of Cincinnati. While attending the University of Cincinnati, she worked an additional three years at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio in their OR, from 1969 to 1971.

With a love for helping people, she attributes her 50-year successful career to her hard work. For her outstanding contribution to the field of nursing. Presently she volunteers in the Pastoral Care office at Ohio Health Mansfield and is writing a memoir about her time in the OR

A registered nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfill a variety of job duties. In addition to their primary role in treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include leadership, research, performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients’ symptoms and medical histories, and assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up.

A certified nurse, operating room (CNOR), also known as a perioperative nurse, is a registered nurse with advanced skills and certification in the care of surgical patients. They are responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient care of the patient in the operating room.

A certified legal nurse consultant (CLNC) is a registered nurse who uses expertise as a health care provider and specialized training to consult on medical-related legal cases. They will often assist in medical malpractice cases, toxic torts, insurance fraud cases, personal injury cases, worker’s compensation cases, and criminal cases, among others.
