An experienced internist specializing in hospital medicine, Dr. Rendón serves as the Clerkship Director for the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico Hospital. He is also the Director or Co-Director of three blocks within the Phase I Curriculum: Gastrointestinal Nutrition Metabolism, Cardiovascular Pulmonary Renal, and the WISE Curriculum at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine (UNM SOM).

A native New Mexican, Dr. Rendón received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at the University of New Mexico Hospital, where he was Chief Resident.

An authority in his field, Dr. Rendón is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and a Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine (FHM), Dr. Rendón is an active member of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Rendón has been the recipient of various awards, including the Hospital Medicine 2016 Scholarly Activity Award, the 2018 Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, the Society for General Internal Medicine 2018 Regional Award for Excellence in Clinical Education, and has been the recipient of the William Hardy Residency and Ervin W. Lewis Medical Student Khatali Teaching Awards several times since 2013. He earned the Fellow of the American College of Physicians designation in 2015 and the Fellow in Hospital Medicine designation in December 2020.
