Prior to his current endeavours, he served as an attending neurosurgeon within the Department of Neurosurgery at Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, a Locums neurosurgeon at Desert Spine and Neurosurgical Institute, a Locums neurosurgeon at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, a Locums neurosurgeon at Eastern Maine Medical Center, a Locums neurosurgeon at Mercy Medical Center, and as an Assistant Professor III of Neurosurgery at the University of California at Riverside.

Dr. Kaloostian attended Providence High School, a national blue ribbon high school, where his interest in neurosciences began. He spent his summers studying neuroscience, physics, and organic chemistry at Brown University, Stanford University, and Harvard University. He then matriculated into the extremely competitive University of California BS/BA/MD accelerated program out of high school. This rigorous 7-year program is the only one of its kind in California and one of a handful across the United States.

After finishing medical school at the prestigious David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, he attended the University of New Mexico Medical Center for his residency in neurological surgery where he excelled in cranial and spinal surgery, including neuro-trauma. He then completed a prestigious instructorship in complex spine and spinal oncology under the mentorship of the renowned Ziya Gokaslan MD, FACS at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.  

With a love for medicine and neurosurgery, Dr. Kaloostian is board-certified through the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Maintaining professional competence, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). 

Having served on over 20 local and national leadership committees, Dr. Kaloostian had been elected twice to serve as the only surgical resident representative on the National Surgical Caucus Executive Committee. He has also been very involved locally and nationally in medical care health policy, with publications and oral presentations at national conferences. 

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
