Dr. Roholt is an ophthalmology leader dedicated to advanced laser, surgical, and medical eye treatment. He is the Founder of the Roholt Vision Institute (RVI), the premier Lasik and cataract center in Ohio, with offices in North Canton, Alliance, and Canfield.
Since 2001, the primary mission of the RVI has been to continue the advancement of quality refractive, LASIK, lens implant and cataract surgery. Dr. Roholt along with associates Mathie, Kubis, Celmer, and Wohl provide consultation/ management of all eye diseases.
With a solid educational background, Dr. Roholt received his Undergraduate Degree from the University of Minnesota, and his Medical Degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He then went on to perform his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Florida, followed by his fellowship in surgical pathology, spending a year in research on arterial injury.
Striving for excellence and compassion in eye care, Dr. Roholt is board certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
Beginning his career as an eye surgeon, it has always been Dr. Roholt’s intention of building the premier refractive surgery/lens implant practice in the Midwest. He has been among the vanguard of refractive surgery advancements in the United States, involved in the incisional treatments for myopia prior to introducing LASIK to Northeast Ohio.
The following are his Ohio “firsts:” LASIK for myopia and hyperopia in 1996, INTACS™ for myopia in 1999, Zyoptix wavefront-guided LASIK in 2003, Verisyse™ implant for high myopia in 2004, Visian ICL™ for high myopia in 2006, Zyoptix ACE™ LASIK 4-D eye tracking in 2009, and Zeiss SMILE™ for myopia in 2017.
Holding an academic appointment, Dr. Roholt is an Associate Professor with Ohio State University, and assists Dr. Mathie in the Optometry Externship training program.
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
Dedicated to his profession, Dr. Roholt has spoken internationally as an invited speaker concerning Ultrasound testing for the Visian ICL™ and electronic lens implants. His interests in LASIK, Phakic (Visian ICL™) and electronic lenses have led to patents and publications in ophthalmic journals.
Notably, Dr. Roholt was honored with the AAO “Best Paper” Award in the 1990s for his pioneering work on corneal lamellar surgery, even preceding the introduction of LASIK to the United States. His exceptional contributions were further recognized when he was named “Ophthalmologist of the Year” by the ORSS.
Beyond his thriving professional life, Dr. Roholt extends his expertise to various mission trips in collaboration with organizations like Marine Reach, Vision Outreach International, Surgical Eye Expeditions, and Cross Eyed Missions, offering eye care services in places like Fiji and Central America.
Outside the realm of ophthalmology, Dr. Roholt finds joy in the company of his wife and four children. He actively participates in the worship team at Alliance Christian Center, finding relaxation and enjoyment in activities such as tennis, skiing, and flying.
