Dr. Kocherlakota is a neonatologist caring for the critically ill newborn and premature infants. He is the Site Director of the Department of Pediatrics at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall, and an attending physician at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital.
In his professional experience, he also works within the Division of Newborn Medicine at New York Medical College, which is a part of Boston Children’s Health Physicians. There, he remains focused on finding ways to improve care for newborns through clinical research and innovative techniques.
Back in 1974, Dr. Kocherlakota graduated with his medical degree from Kurnool Medical College in India. After relocating to the United States, he performed his residency in pediatrics at St. Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, he is board-certified in both pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The ABP exists to promote excellence in medical care for children and adolescents. Certification represents dedication by pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, and pediatric trainees to the highest level of professionalism in patient care.
Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill, or premature newborn. It is a hospital-based specialty and is practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.
In honor of his 40+ year clinical expertise, Dr. Kocherlakota is the recipient of On-Time Doctor Award (2014) and Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2015, 2017).
