Trauma surgery is a surgical specialty that utilizes both operative and non-operative management to treat traumatic injuries, typically in an acute setting. Trauma surgeons generally complete residency training in general surgery and often fellowship training in trauma or surgical critical care. They are responsible for operating on and repairing life threatening blunt-force and penetrating injuries in the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. They also manage critical care for the most severely injured patients. 

On a more personal note, Dr. Payne is passionate about healthcare systems and is an advocate for universal healthcare. She also enjoys boating, especially rowing and kayaking.
