Dr. Schiffmann is a neurologist who specializes in solving diagnostic puzzles concerning neurological disorders of unknown cause. He understands the frustration and discouragement caused by living with an undiagnosed disease or condition and applies knowledge acquired during 25 plus years of experience in the field of neurology to try and assist his patients.  

Dr. Schiffmann is currently serving patients at Baylor Scott & White Neurometabolic & Undiagnosed Neurological Diseases – a clinic that specializes in diagnosing rare or difficult-to-diagnose neurological conditions in both children and adults. These undiagnosed diseases may include lysosomal storage diseases and leukodystrophies, as well as other genetic diseases that affect the nervous system.

Dr. Schiffmann received his medical degree from the State University of Liege in Belgium. Thereafter, he went on to complete an internship at the Liege University Hospital in Liege, Belgium, followed by a residency in pediatrics at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel. He also completed fellowship trainings in pediatric neurology at Boston City Hospital and Tufts New England Medical Center, as well as in neurometabolic diseases at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Developmental and Metabolic Neurology Branch. Furthermore, Dr. Schiffmann received his Master of Health Science in Clinical Research from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

Dr. Schiffmann holds professional memberships with several organizations, including the American Neurological Association, the Child Neurology Society (USA), the American Academy of Neurology (Fellow), the American Society of Human Genetics, and the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM).

Dr. Schiffmann is board-certified in neurology (with special qualification in child neurology) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the public interest and the professions of psychiatry and neurology by promoting excellence in practice through certification and maintenance of certification processes.

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. As a neurologist, Dr. Schiffmann deals with the diagnosis and treatment of many categories of conditions and disease involving the central and peripheral nervous systems. His interests include the mechanism and treatment of neurometabolic genetic diseases such as lysosomal storage disorders, leukodystrophies and other neurogenetic disorders. He is also a leader in the study and treatment of many neurological disorders, including Fabry disease and Gaucher disease using enzyme replacement therapy, pharmacological chaperone and substrate reduction therapy.  

In addition to English, Dr. Schiffmann speaks Hebrew and French.
