Registered Nurse Eugenia M. Brandenburg currently practices as a Renal and Pancreatic Transplant Coordinator with the Sentara Norfolk General Transplant Center. She is primarily responsible for Waitlist management of persons waiting for a transplant. I am also on call for admitting patients at the time of organ offers. She holds certification as a Clinical Transplant Coordinator. Eugenia has been practicing as a nurse since 1979, giving her over four decades of experience in her field. She holds an expertise in Renal Nursing, Pancreatic Transplant, Intensive Care Unit, and as a Transplant Coordinator and Kidney Coordinator.

The Sentara Transplant Center is located at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. In its nearly 40 years of existence, the transplant center has been a part of more than 2,200 transplants. As a comprehensive solid organ transplant center, the transplant center is committed to providing value for the residents of Hampton Roads by offering patients in need of solid organ transplantation the best outcomes and superior customer service. The center currently performs kidney, heart, pancreas and kidney/pancreas transplants. In fact, Sentara was the first in the region to perform kidney, heart and pancreas transplants. Each of the organ transplant programs was established in accordance with the mission of Sentara Healthcare to improve the health status for the citizens of Hampton Roads.

Eugenia graduated as a licensed practical nurse in 1979 from Vocational School – Tidewater School. Furthering her education she graduated with her Associates Degree In Applied Science of Nursing from Tidewater Community College in 1990, followed by her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville University in 2016. To stay up to date in her field she remains a professional member of the Virginia Nurses Association, International Transplant Nurses Society, and the American Nurses Association. Additionally, she is the Champion and Chairperson of Magnet.

Eugenia has been awarded the Medical Faculty Scholarship Recipient, X2, from the Hospital Medical Board, in 1990 she was the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Award Recipient, in 2006 she received the Nursing Excellence Award, and in 2015 she received the VNA nominee for Clinical Nurse Excellence for Sentara Norfolk General.

She has an extensive and varied background in regards to nursing, she holds experience in: Urology and plastic surgery post operative care. Plastic surgery reconstruction post operative care. Transgender reassignment post operative care. Burn Trauma Stepdown. GYN – oncology. Long term ventilator care and weaning from ventilator. Intensive care experience over 17 years, including general intensive care, burn trauma, medical cardiac intensive care and 16 years in Cardio-thoracic intensive care; including heart and lung transplant care, LVAD, RVAD, BIVAD care. CCVHD and thoracic aneurism repair post-operative care. She transitioned to Heart/Lung Transplant clinical Coordinator for three years and now holds an additional eight years in renal/pancreas transplant clinical coordinator.
