He enjoys all aspects of rheumatology but has a special interest in lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, gout, and fibromyalgia.
Vanguard Rheumatology Partners is a single-specialty practice dedicated to arthritis, soft tissue rheumatic disorders, systemic autoimmune diseases, and osteoporosis. Serving the Mount Sinai community since 2004, the staff offer a host of comprehensive services, both in the outpatient and inpatient setting.
As a practitioner, Dr. Alemany listens to his patients, respecting their opinions when making decisions and delivering personalized care. He also serves as an attending rheumatologist in the Division of Arthritis and Rheumatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida, where he also teaches medical students and residents. It is the largest independent non-profit hospital in South Florida with a mission “to provide high quality health care to our diverse community enhanced through teaching, research, charity care, and financial responsibility.”
Born in Santiago, Cuba, Dr. Alemany earned his medical degree from Escuela Autonoma de Ciencias Médicas de Centro America in Costa Rica. He then relocated to the United States to further his education. He completed an internship in general surgery at the University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital and a residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He also completed a two-year fellowship in rheumatology at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, where he conducted research and investigated several clinical trials.
The doctor is board-certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. He is also a member of the American College of Rheumatology, the Florida Society of Rheumatology, and the American College of Physicians.
Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases, pain disorders affecting joints, and osteoporosis. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendinitis.
Pertaining to his achievements, Dr. Alemany is the co-author of the book chapter “Vasculitis in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus” in the second edition of Inflammatory Diseases of the Blood Vessels, and has published in other peer-reviewed journals.
When he is not treating patients, he enjoys fishing, participating in sports, and cooking. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
