Dr. Alter specializes in medical oncology and hematology. For more than 15 years, he has been treating patients in the New Jersey community, where he is currently serving patients at Regional Cancer Care Associates (RCCA). Dr. Alter received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. He completed his residency in internal medicine at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center, and received his fellowship training in hematology/oncology at New York University Medical Center.
Dr. Alter is the Chairman of the Transfusion Committee at St. Clare’s Hospital, and a member of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The ACP is a national organization of internists, who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of adults. The ASCO is a professional organization representing physicians of all oncology subspecialties who care for people with cancer.
Oncology refers to the study of cancer, whereas hematology refers to the study of blood. A medical oncologist & hematologist, like Dr. Alter, is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and/or prevention of cancers and blood diseases. With vast expertise in his field, Dr. Alter’s specialties include: urologic cancer, genitourinary cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, as well as head and neck cancer.
