That same year, he founded the Animal Ophthalmology Clinic in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. One year later, in 1979, Dr. Munger interrupted his practice to join the faculty of the University of Tennessee Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Knoxville. During this time, he served as an assistant professor of ophthalmology and worked extensively with the Department of Urban Practice, providing ophthalmological care to both small and large animals.
From 1979 to 1983, Dr. Munger dedicated himself to teaching veterinary ophthalmology, after which he returned to private practice in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 1983.
Promoting excellence in veterinary ophthalmology, he is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO). ACVO Diplomate members founded ACVO with a mission to improve the quality of life of animals by preserving and restoring their vision through education and science.
