The board is one of 18 medical specialty certifying boards of the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and was established in 1942.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiologists, Dr. Marcotte received additional board certification in adult echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography. He is also board-certified in nuclear cardiology through the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Marcotte is also a member of the American Osteopathic Association and is licensed to practice in the state of Michigan.
