On the subject of his educational background, Dr. Nascimento received his Master of Science degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles and his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, followed by his fellowship in sports medicine at Boston University.

The doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the New England Shoulder & Elbow Society, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and a fellow member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Pertaining to his research efforts, Dr. Nascimento has an interest in novel techniques to decrease patient pain and narcotic medication using open and arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery. He is helping to pioneer new standards of care for addressing these issues. He also has interest in the biomechanics of ACL tears and the post-reconstructed knee, as well as optimum return to play criteria following shoulder and knee surgery.
