Roberto J. Cabassa-Latoni, DMD, Pediatric Dentist

Get to know Pediatric Dentist Dr. Roberto J. Cabassa-Latoni, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.

Dr. Cabassa-Latoni teaches full-time clinical pediatric dentistry at KID clinic, MSC clinic, Caridad clinic, and Joe DiMaggio clinic.

Since 2018, he has been serving as an Assistant Professor within the Pediatric Dentistry Program at the Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine.

Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine is the dental school of Nova Southeastern University. Its mission is to educate students to become competent in all phases of the general practice of dental medicine and postdoctoral residents who are proficient in their respective specialty fields.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Cabassa-Latoni went to Cupeyville School, graduating from high school in 1980. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Puerto Rico and was then admitted to the School of Dental Medicine, Health Sciences Campus at the said establishment.

After graduating with his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry Degree, Dr. Cabassa-Latoni joined the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. While in the Navy, he spent seven years as a general practitioner and then became involved in the Pediatric Dentistry Program at the University of Iowa. After completion of the program, he continued his naval career as pediatric dentist, spending it in Japan, Italy, and Spain, among others.

In 2002, Dr. Cabassa-Latoni became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He served as Department Head, Clinic Director and Chief of Dental Services at various Naval Hospitals. In 2009, he became the top pediatric dentist for the U.S. Navy as the Specialty Advisor for Pediatric Dentistry to the Navy Surgeon General. 

After retirement from the Naval Service, following 28 years of service, Dr. Cabassa-Latoni went to private practice in Southern Spain after achieving his dental boards. He then relocated to the United States, settling in Florida. 

An Honorary Life Member of the International Association of Dental Students, Dr. Cabassa-Latoni is also an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the College of Dental Surgeons of Spain, and the College of Dental Surgeons of Puerto Rico. He has lectured in more than eleven countries.

Pediatric dentistry is the branch of dentistry dealing with children from birth through adolescence. A pediatric dentist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the dental problems of children from infancy to young adulthood. They usually care for special needs patients as well.

Outside of practicing pediatric dentistry, Dr. Cabassa-Latoni enjoys woodworking, home renovation, and cooking (he is an avid lover of seafood). 

On a more personal note, he is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian.
