Dr. Miranda is a board-certified pathologist and hematopathologist dedicated to the diagnosis of leukemias and lymphomas. Since 2007, he has served as a Professor in the Department of Hematopathology – Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a comprehensive cancer center and one of the original three comprehensive cancer centers in the country. It is both a degree-granting academic institution and a cancer treatment and research center located at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

After earning his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru in 1983, Dr. Miranda immigrated to the United States. He completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Brown University, followed by his fellowship in hematopathology at Vanderbilt University. 

Thereafter, he became board-certified in hematology, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology, one of the 24 member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties. This organization was assembled in May 1936, under the approval of the Advisory Board for Medical Specialties and the American Medical Association Council on Medical Education and Hospitals.

With an interest in T-cell lymphomas, the doctor has developed an expertise in breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma. This is a topic on which he has several landmark publications and book chapters. He has also lectured nationally and internationally.

Pathology is a branch of medical science that involves the study and diagnosis of disease through the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues (biopsy samples), bodily fluids, and in some cases, the whole body (autopsy). Pathologists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and management of diseases by laboratory methods. 

Hematopathology or hematopathology is the study of diseases and disorders affecting blood cells, their production, and any organs and tissues involved in hematopoiesis, such as bone marrow, spleen, and thymus. Hematopathologists are highly trained healthcare providers who specialize in diseases of the blood and blood components.
