Get to know Neonatologist Dr. Ronald Dean Pyle, who serves patients in Newburgh, Indiana.

Dr. Pyle is a board-certified and fellowship-trained neonatologist. He serves as the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for Deaconess Health System and as the Medical Director of Neonatology, Lactation, and Neonatal Transport at The Women’s Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.

A firm believer that communication is key, Dr. Pyle’s philosophy is family-centered care. He really believes that families need to be a part of the decision-making process. He and his staff talk to them from day 0 and then on a daily basis. They are always on the same page so that when they make decisions, they make decisions together.

Following the completion of his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine by the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997, Dr. Pyle went on to further his training. He performed his residency in pediatrics at Sparrow Hospital in 2000, and his fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Rainbow Babies And Children’s Hospital in 2003.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), the doctor is board-certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics by the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics (AOBP). The AOBP  is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of medical diseases in infants, children, and adolescents.

Holding an academic position, Dr. Pyle is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine. 

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill, or premature newborn. It is a hospital-based specialty and is practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.
