Dr. Adekunle is a fellowship-trained infectious disease specialist at MUSC Health University Medical Center.

University Medical Center is a nationally recognized and leading health sciences university. It comprises four hospitals (Institute of Psychiatry, Children’s Hospital, Ashley River Tower, and University Hospital) and an NCI-designated cancer center, MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. It is also home to South Carolina’s only solid organ transplant center, the Level I Trauma Center, as well as one of only two National Telehealth Centers of Excellence.

Alongside her clinical role, Dr. Adekunle serves as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine.

Academically, she graduated with her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in 2013. Three years later, in 2016, she performed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. Most recently, Dr. Adekunle completed her fellowship in infectious disease at the Emory University School of Medicine in 2020.

Striving to achieve optimal health for her patients, the doctor is board-certified in infectious disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Infectious disease is a medical specialty dealing with prevention, the diagnosis, and treatment of infections. An infectious disease specialist’s practice also consists of managing nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections.
