Dr. Jean is a clinical pathologist & cytopathologist who is affiliated with several hospitals and medical centers in New York that are a part of Northwell Health. Following the completion of his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from Purdue University in 2002, Dr. Jean went on to obtain his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2006. He then went on to complete his residency at the same educational venue, followed by his fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Licensed to practice medicine in New York and Ohio, the doctor is board-certified in cytopathology, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABP). The mission of the ABP, as a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties, is to promote the health of the public and advance the practice and science of pathology by establishing voluntary certification standards and assessing the qualifications of those seeking to practice the specialty of pathology.
Pathology is a branch of medical science that involves the study and diagnosis of disease through the examination of surgically removed organs, tissues, bodily fluids, and in some cases, the whole body. Clinical pathologists are physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and management of diseases by laboratory methods.
Cytopathology is a branch of pathology that studies and diagnoses diseases on the cellular level. A cytopathologist is an anatomic pathologist trained in the diagnosis of human disease by means of the study of cells obtained from body secretions and fluids; by scraping, washing, or sponging the surface of a lesion; or by the aspiration of a tumor mass or body organ with a fine needle.
On a more personal note, Dr. Jean is a member of U.S. Masters Swimming, a nonprofit membership national governing body for masters swimming, an organized program of swimming for adults.
