Sanaa Mohammed Bdiiwi, MD, an Internist with University Hospital

Get to know Internist Dr. Sanaa Mohammed Bdiiwi, who serves patients in Newark, New Jersey.

Recognized as a skilled internist, Dr. Bdiiwi focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the adult population—both acute and chronic. She is currently affiliated with University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. 

Formerly affiliated with NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island in New York City, New York & after working there for many years, she came to Rutgers New Jersey Medical School to work as an academic hospitalist. In addition to her busy inpatient clinical service, she works frequently with the residents and medical students as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Medicine, helping to educate and guide them during their inpatient medicine, medical consult and admission rotations.

Graduating with her medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Tishreen University in Syria in 1997, Dr. Bdiiwi relocated to the United States to further her training. Once there, she completed her residency in internal medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island in 2007.

Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

A volunteer with the Syrian American Medical Society, also known as SAMS, Dr. Bdiiwi currently serves as the Vice President of the Tri-State Chapter. SAMS is a non profit medical organization that has been providing medical relief and care to the displaced Syrians amid the civil war since 2011. 

On a more personal note, Dr. Bdiiwi speaks both English and Arabic.
