An experienced physician with a demonstrated history of working in the military industry, Dr. McKay serves as an interventional pulmonologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He also serves as a physician, Deputy Director for Operational Support Tele-Critical Care, and Pulmonary Critical Care Specialty Leader with the United States Department of the Navy.

As such, he is responsible for serving as the subject matter expert to the Navy Surgeon General, providing global representation for the pulmonary critical care community within the Navy, and for expanding use of tele-critical care within the operational and deployed environments.

Licensed to practice medicine in California, Idaho, Maryland, and Virginia, he is affiliated with Carroll Hospital Center, Frederick Health Hospital, Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton, and St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center.

Graduating with his medical degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago in 2001, Dr. McKay went on to further his training. He completed his residency in internal medicine at California Pacific Medical Center – Pacific Campus in 2005, and his fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at the National Capital Consortium in 2008.

Specializing in the medical treatment of adults, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

A Diplomate of the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (DAABIP), Dr. McKay is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP).

Interventional pulmonology is a maturing medical sub-specialty from its parent specialty of pulmonary medicine. It deals specifically with minimally invasive endoscopic and percutaneous procedures for diagnosis and treatment of neoplastic as well as non-neoplastic diseases of the airways, lungs, and pleura. Interventional pulmonologists offer diagnostic and treatment services for all major lung problems, including comprehensive evaluations of: abnormal chest X-rays, cancer in the lung and chest, chronic cough, coughing up blood (hemoptysis), liquid around the lungs (pleural effusion), and persistent respiratory failure requiring tracheostomy placement and management.
