Hometown Physician Leverages Personal Experience and Professional Expertise to Serve the Shelton Community
Shelton, Connecticut – Growing up in the Valley, Shaun Michael Najarian, DO, developed a deep-seated desire to help others in his community. This passion led him on a journey that took him across the state and overseas, ultimately culminating in his return to his hometown to contribute to the health and well-being of the very community that inspired him.
Dr. Najarian is now a proud member of Griffin Faculty Physicians, where he provides care at the Family Health Care Center in Shelton. “I think I always knew I’d come back to Connecticut, but when I had the opportunity to come back to work in my hometown of Shelton with Griffin, I knew it was the right fit,” he said.
A Shelton native, Dr. Najarian’s educational journey began at Mohegan Elementary School, continued through Shelton Intermediate School, and culminated at Shelton High School. His commitment to helping others was evident early on as he volunteered at the St. Joseph Center long-term care facility in Trumbull and supported local agencies through the Huntington Congregation Youth Group.
Medical care runs in his family; his mother, Liz, has been an ICU nurse at Greenwich Hospital for over 38 years, and his sister, Brittany, is a travel Pediatric ICU nurse.
Dr. Najarian’s medical journey took him to Providence College in Rhode Island, where he trained as an EMT at Echo Hose Ambulance in Shelton. His international experience includes studying abroad at the National University of Ireland, Galway. After graduation, he worked as an Emergency Department Scribe and Technician at Bridgeport Hospital before pursuing his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
During his medical training, Dr. Najarian’s dedication to primary care solidified. He participated in the school’s Primary Care Scholars Program, which allowed him to address health needs in underserved communities. His involvement in a heart-healthy program taught him the importance of preventative health practices, motivating him to guide others toward healthier lifestyles.
After completing his internal medicine residency at Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center in New Jersey, Dr. Najarian was eager to return to the Valley. “The thing I most liked about where I grew up was the real sense of community,” he noted. “Everyone always looks out for one another. I couldn’t be more excited to be working at Griffin Faculty Physicians because I truly believe in Griffin’s philosophy of caring for the whole person.”
Dr. Najarian’s return to Shelton was more than just a homecoming; it represented a commitment to uplift and heal his community. With his wealth of experience and genuine compassion, he is poised to make a significant impact on the health and wellness of those he serves.
