Minneapolis, Minnesota – Sheila Kennedy, DNP, APRN, CNM, MPH Candidate, stands out as a dedicated Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s, Sexual, and Reproductive Health Program Manager at Southside Community Health Services. In her role as Medical Director, Sheila provides comprehensive healthcare services aimed at improving the lives of diverse and underserved populations in Minneapolis.
With a deep commitment to immigrant and minority health, Sheila focuses on supporting patients who have experienced trauma. Her expertise includes forensic exams for survivors of sexual and domestic violence, as well as innovative healing practices like Maya Abdominal Massage, which promotes the reconnection of mind, body, and spirit after traumatic experiences. Her educational journey reflects her dedication to healthcare excellence. Sheila earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish from St. Catherine University in 2004, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Augsburg University in 2012. In 2017, she achieved her Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree with a specialization in Nurse Midwifery from the University of Minnesota. Currently, Sheila is pursuing a Master of Public Health Degree with a concentration in Maternal Child Health and minors in Health Equity and Sexual & Reproductive Health, expected to graduate in May 2025. This rigorous academic background equips her with the clinical skills and public health leadership necessary to advocate for health equity and sexual and reproductive rights, creating pathways for individuals and communities to thrive.
Before her current role, Sheila served as a clinical instructor at the University of Minnesota from 2014 to 2017 and as an APRN, CNM at Planned Parenthood North Central States from 2017 to 2019. Her extensive experience informs her holistic approach to patient care and community health.
