Dr. Carryl is a board-certified general surgeon who is affiliated with Brooklyn Bariatric Group in Brooklyn, New York. There, he and Dr. Javier Andrade work in close collaboration with an experienced and compassionate staff to provide optimal pre-surgery and post-surgery care geared towards the long-term weight loss management and good health. Both Dr. Carryl and Dr. Andrade have successfully performed hundreds of bariatric surgeries using the safest and most advanced weight loss surgical procedures and techniques.

Dr. Carryl’s expertise is in minimally-invasive, laparoscopic, bariatric, and robotic surgeries. He was the first surgeon in Brooklyn to perform a robotic gastric bypass in October of 2011 at New York Methodist Hospital. 

Dr. Carryl is Chairman of Surgery at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. Prior to his current endeavors, he served as Chairman of Surgery at Brooklyn Hospital from 2003–2010 where he developed their Weight Loss Surgery Department.

Dr. Carryl was born in McKenzie, Guyana. After high school, he continued his studies in Trinidad and then Oakwood University in Alabama. He earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California in 1988. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in general surgery at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Carryl is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is also a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Carryl credits Dr. Richard Fogler, his mentor and later chairman, as having a great influence on his career. “He taught me to be an effective surgeon, to be creative and a surgical and medical leader” as stated by Dr. Carryl.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon, like Dr. Carryl, is a medical specialist who performs surgery for a wide range of illnesses.

Outside of his practice, Dr Carryl has been a life-long humanitarian. He is President of the Overseas Medical Assistance Team (OMAT) – a non-profit volunteer organization. For the past 24 years, he has led multiple humanitarian missions to the Caribbean and Africa.
