Emergency Physicians of Tidewater (EPT) is a democratic group of board-certified/ board-prepared emergency medicine physicians and mid-level providers dedicated to providing outstanding patient care. The physician members of EPT also serve as the faculty of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Back in 1989, Dr. Martin graduated with his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School. He then went on to complete his residency in emergency medicine at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina in 1992.
Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in emergency medicine, emergency medical services, and undersea & hyperbaric medicine through the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM is one of 24 medical specialty certification boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Among his other roles, he is the Medical Director of the Sentara Leigh Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Center where he treats patients with chronic wounds in addition to treating patients with hyperbaric therapy for a variety of clinical indications. He also serves as the Medical Director for the Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services. And as the Tidewater Regional Medical Director for the Tidewater EMS Council.
Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.
