“In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was evident that patients in Texas aged 18 and over with minor health issues needed a way to receive their care in an affordable manner. The goal is to keep patients from having to wait one to two weeks for a clinic appointment and then have to sit in a waiting room with others who may be running a fever and/or contagious. This need gave rise to the creation of this particular clinic platform: Low-cost (self-pay) $40 per problem visits that provide accessible care for adults with (1) minor health issues, (2) who need preventive screening, and/or (3) need a prescription refill until they can get in to see their physician” as stated on the clinic’s website.
Caring for patients’ healthcare needs has been a part of Tammy’s 25+year career as a nurse. She received her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Victoria College, and her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2009. That same year, she was certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
In 2018, she received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree for Family Nurse Practitioners from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She also holds a Master of Health Administration degree from Kennedy Western University.
To date, she has conducted three publications, one on breast cancer screening QI interventions, and two on genetic and genomic advancements, testing, and treatment options for patients and clinicians.
Thriving in her field, Tammy remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She has been named a Top Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator in Corpus Christi (2020).
An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a nurse who has obtained at least a master’s degree in nursing. APRNs may work across various healthcare settings, including hospitals, ambulatory clinics or long-term care facilities. They provide medical support and preventative care to patients, along with additional responsibilities of coordinating patient care and using specialized knowledge to manage complex patient conditions. APRNs can diagnose and treat as well as order and interpret tests and prescribe medications.
A Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) is an advanced practice registered nurse who holds certification and works autonomously or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, to deliver family-focused care. Given the rather broad nature of the “family” patient population focus, FNPs offer a wide range of healthcare services that revolve around the family unit; from health promotion and disease prevention to direct care and counseling across the lifespan.
