Dr. Mir is a triple board certified geriatrician who serves as Chairperson at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health, Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital.

NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health is a redesigned health care campus featuring the new 11-floor Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospital which provides emergency care, modern labor & delivery suites, and state-of-the-art surgical services. The new Health & Wellness Institute offers outpatient services—from primary and preventive care to specialty services for children and adults—all designed to keep the community healthy.

Educated in India, Dr. Mir graduated with her Medical Degree from Government Medical College, Jammu & Kashmir in 1980. She then performed her rotating internship and residency in internal medicine / cardiology at SMHS Hospital, before relocating to the United States.

Once there, she completed her residency in internal medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, after which she served as Chief Resident at Nassau University Medical Center from 1989-1990.

Following her training, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Since 2008, Dr. Mir has been a Master of the American College of Physicians (MACP), the nation’s largest medical specialty organization. She previously served as Chair-elect of the Board of Regents.

Serving in progressively responsible positions at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in New York, Dr. Mir was a member of the geriatrics faculty at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York from 2001-2006. She then served as Senior Medical Director of the Hospice Care Network in Long Island from 2006-2009, and as the Associate Chief of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center from 2009-2012.

Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. Geriatricians focus on maintaining patient well-being and independent functioning. They diagnose and treat conditions that may commonly occur with age.

Happily married, Dr. Mir and her husband, Parvez Mir, MD, have two daughters and one son. In her spare time, Dr. Mir enjoys gardening, reading, and indulging in interior design. She speaks multiple languages, including English, Kashmiri, and Urdu.
