Tanya Haas, DNP, MSN, RN with George Mason University College of Health and Human Sciences
Get to know Dr. Tanya Haas.
As a doctorally prepared registered nurse with over 20 years of clinical nursing experience, Dr. Haas specializes in emergency nursing, case management, and vulnerable populations. She spent the majority of her clinical career in multiple roles in a Level II Trauma Center, before transitioning to clinical education and case management. She currently is an Assistant Professor of Nursing & is the Academic Program Director for the Accelerated Second degree and RN-BSN students at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
As an Assistant Professor, she teaches a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. She has also served as the co-investigator on a federal grant that provides expanded knowledge and skills in primary care and public/community health for nursing students to address health disparities in underserved populations.
Following the completion of her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1996, Dr. Haas went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree in Nursing Leadership/Management from Walden University in 2009. Wanting to further her education, she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in Nursing Administration at George Mason University in 2018.
Dr. Haas’s doctoral work focused on bridging the gap in the undergraduate nursing curriculum through the integration of evidence-based public health concepts and primary care competencies into existing didactic and clinical courses.
In addition, she continues to work as a Case Manager at Mary Washington Hospital and is certified as an Advanced Certified Telemedicine/Telehealth Professional (A-CTTP).
To advance her professional efforts, Dr. Haas remains a member of the American Nurses Association, the Virginia Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, and the Association of Community Health Nurse Educators.
With extensive knowledge in population health, she has a special interest in underserved and vulnerable populations. She served on medical missions to Peru (2012-2014, 2016) and performed clinical rotations at the Mason and Partners Clinics (2015, 2018).
Among her diverse achievements, Dr. Haas has presented at national and international nursing conferences and serves as a mentor in her academic and clinical career. She was the recipient of the 2018 DNP Award for Scholarship and Leadership.
