Dr. Nikolova’s areas of expertise include hospital medicine, internal medicine, palliative medicine, and pain medicine.

Having been with Wellstar since 2015, she provides the best quality of life for patients and their families facing life-threatening or advanced illnesses.

Helping patients through this challenging time as compassionately as possible, she is affiliated with Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, Wellstar Cobb Hospital, Wellstar Douglas Hospital, Wellstar Paulding Hospital, and Wellstar Windy Hill Hospital.

At the start of her academic career, Dr. Nikolova graduated with her medical degree from the  Medical University, Sofia in Bulgaria. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the same educational venue, and then relocated to the United States, continuing her education at Rochester General Hospital. This was followed by a fellowship in pain and palliative medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Subsequent to her education, she attained board certification in internal medicine & hospice and palliative medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Furthermore, she attained board certification in pain medicine through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

Both palliative care and hospice care provide comfort. But palliative care can begin at diagnosis, and at the same time as treatment. Hospice care begins after treatment of the disease is stopped and when it is clear that the person is not going to survive the illness. Hospice and palliative medicine specialists are medical doctors who help prevent and relieve suffering of patients who have a serious illness or who have only a short time left to live. They work with a team of other professionals to address the needs of both the patient and loved ones.

On a more personal note, Dr. Nikolova speaks English, Bulgarian, and Russian.
