Get to know Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Tara K. Hart, who serves patients in Lutherville, Maryland.

With a unique focus on pediatrics, Tara is a certified registered nurse practitioner who practices at the Maryland Pediatric Group, LLC in Lutherville, Maryland.

“The board-certified pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and staff of the Maryland Pediatric Group, LLC have been caring for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults in the Baltimore area for over fifty years. We consider it a privilege and honor to care for the children in your family. We treasure the many memories we have from years past and eagerly look forward to watching your child grow into a young adult” as stated on their website.

A Baltimore native, Tara grew up around the corner from the Maryland Pediatric Group and attended Garrison Forest School. She received her undergraduate degree in Human Development from Washington College in Chestertown and then went on to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree at the Duke University School of Nursing in Durham, North Carolina in 2015.

While she was a student at Duke, she traveled to Guatemala as part of the Nursing Students Without Borders student group. She worked with CureAmericas Global, a nonprofit organization that partners with communities to save the lives of mothers and children by providing health services and education in underdeveloped countries. She worked in a remote region of Guatemala that is known as the “Triangle of Death” due to its maternal and child mortality rates. She also traveled to the village of Ntagacha, Tanzania, to provide nursing care to orphan children in the City of Hope compound.

Tara’s desire to pursue the field of nursing initially developed due to her passion for bedside patient care. She worked in the Duke University Emergency Department, specializing in pediatric trauma and emergency medicine for 5 years. Wanting to further her education, she went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree at the Duke University School of Nursing, after which she joined the Maryland Pediatric Group, LLC in 2020.

Looking back, Tara attributes her success to being well-adapted, staying calm in stressful situations, and working well with others. To advance her professional development, she remains a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

A Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides care to patients throughout their lifespan, normally in the realm of primary care. They perform comprehensive and focused physical examinations, diagnose and treat common acute illnesses and injuries, provide immunizations, and manage high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, and other chronic health problems. CRNPs can order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medicines and therapies, and perform certain procedures (based on state/national practice guidelines). They can also educate and counsel patients and their families regarding healthy lifestyles, healthcare options, and disease prevention.

Among her many accomplishments in her career, Tara is most proud of the continued success and knowledge that she has gained throughout the course of her career. She has been recognized with the 2015 Annie Beery Bieber Award for Outstanding Leadership and the 2015 Faculty Award for DENS (Duke Emergency Nursing Students) by Duke University.

When she is not working, one can find Tara on a sailboat, on a tennis court, or with a guitar in hand. She loves music and the beach, but she most enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her two yellow labs, BO and Murphy.
