Get to know Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Taylor Atchley, who serves patients in the Chattanooga, Tennessee and North Georgia areas.

Dr. Atchley is a specialist in pediatric and adult allergy and asthma at The Allergy and Asthma Group of Galen. He takes great joy in witnessing the positive impact of his medical plans, particularly when it comes to prescribing immunotherapy for allergies and enhancing asthma symptom management.

The aspect of his job that Dr. Atchley loves most is the ability to make children feel better by effectively controlling their asthma and allergy symptoms, contributing to their overall well-being.

Born in Chattanooga and raised in Crossville, Tennessee, Dr. Atchley has strong connections to the local area and considers family ties an essential part of his life. After dedicating nine years of active-duty service as a physician in the United States Air Force, he made the decision, alongside his family, to settle in Chattanooga.

His journey into medicine was initially inspired by a desire to become a veterinarian. However, his hands-on education in Animal Science at the University of Tennessee Agricultural Campus led him to redirect his focus towards directly helping people instead of their animals. This decision paved the way for his specialization in allergy and immunology, driven by the opportunity to improve his patients’ quality of life. Dr. Atchley earned his Medical Degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, after which he performed his residency at Keesler Medical Center. He then went on to specialize in allergy and immunology with fellowship training at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Dedicated to helping patients breathe better and live better, he is board certified in allergy and immunology by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI). The mission of the ABAI is to improve the quality of medical care by the development and utilization of professional and educational standards for the initial certification and maintenance of certification of physician specialists in allergy and immunology.

Furthermore, Dr. Atchley is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Allergy and immunology involves the management of disorders related to the immune system. These conditions range from the very common to the very rare, spanning all ages and encompassing various organ systems. An allergist / immunologist is a physician specially trained to diagnose, treat, and manage allergies, asthma, and immunologic disorders, including primary immunodeficiency disorders.

Throughout his career, Dr. Atchley has earned several notable awards and recognitions. In 2023, he was honored with the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, a testament to his exceptional service and dedication. In 2021, he received both the Field Grade Officer of the Quarter Award for the fourth quarter and the Humanitarian Service Medal, underscoring his outstanding contributions and commitment to humanitarian causes. In the same year, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, adding to his impressive list of achievements.

His dedication to excellence was previously acknowledged with an Air Force Commendation Medal in 2018 and an Air Force Achievement Medal in 2017 during his time at Keesler Medical Center.

Outside of his military career, Dr. Atchley is actively engaged in his local community and his church, exemplifying his commitment to service beyond the uniform. He has made significant contributions to the Children’s Cancer Research Fund in both 2018 and 2019, demonstrating his compassion and commitment to making a positive impact on society.
