Being a respected, fellowship-trained rheumatologist, Dr. Haroun has a strong interest in autoimmune diseases, inflammatory myopathy, and vasculitis. She brings a wealth of clinical experience with over two decades of clinical medicine to Northern Virginia Center for Arthritis. She sees patients at the offices in Annandale and Leesburg, Virginia.

Northern Virginia Center for Arthritis has been providing rheumatologic care to patients in the Northern Virginia area for over twenty five years. All of the physicians are board-certified in rheumatology, and remain dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate, and quality care to their patients.

Prior to her current position at Northern Virginia Center for Arthritis, Dr. Haroun served as a Clinical Associate in the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology and Immunology at the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. 

The doctor is board-certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

After earning her medical degree from the University of Khartoum Faculty of Medicine in Sudan, Dr. Haroun relocated to the United States to further her education. Once there, she served her residency in internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, followed by her fellowship in rheumatology & immunology at the Duke University School of Medicine.

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases, pain disorders affecting joints, and osteoporosis. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendinitis.
