Thomas C. Kingsley, MD, MPH, MS, Joins UCLA Health as Assistant Professor of Medicine

Innovative Hospitalist and Physician Informaticist Brings Extensive Experience in AI and Public Health to Los Angeles and Santa Monica

UCLA Health is proud to announce that Thomas C. Kingsley, MD, MPH, MS, has joined its esteemed faculty as an Assistant Professor of Medicine, effective August 2024. Dr. Kingsley, a practicing hospitalist and inpatient physician informaticist, has a distinguished career dedicated to the intersection of medicine, public health, and technology. He is currently affiliated with Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California and UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.

Dr. Kingsley’s journey in medicine has been marked by a commitment to improving healthcare delivery through innovative solutions. Prior to his appointment at UCLA, he served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Informatics at the Mayo Clinic, where he led an AI lab that successfully implemented cutting-edge tools to enhance clinical, administrative, and public health decision-making.

A graduate of UMass Chan Medical School, Dr. Kingsley earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2014, simultaneously completing a Master of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. His dual training has equipped him with a profound understanding of population health and preventive medicine. Dr. Kingsley completed his residency in internal medicine at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine in 2017 and achieved board certification in Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine that same year.

In pursuit of further knowledge in medical technology, Dr. Kingsley obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Informatics from Johns Hopkins University in 2020 and became board-certified in Clinical Informatics from the American Board of Preventive Medicine in 2021. His expertise positions him as a leader in developing data-driven healthcare solutions that prioritize patient care and operational efficiency.

Beyond his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Kingsley is actively involved in several professional organizations. He serves as Chair of the Clinical Research Informatics Working Group of the American Medical Informatics Association, is a Senior Physician Editor for the American College of Physicians, and contributes to the Research Subcommittee of the Society of General Internal Medicine. He also plays a key role on the Advisory Board for Bloom Value Corporation, helping healthcare startups successfully deliver AI products worldwide.

Dr. Kingsley is a passionate advocate for healthcare equity, championing policies to address the rising cost of medications, improve access to care for under-insured populations, and promote reproductive rights and health as a human right. His dedication extends to addressing misinformation in healthcare, increasing research funding, and enhancing resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Dr. Kingsley’s appointment at UCLA Health marks an exciting chapter in his career, as he aims to continue his work in advancing healthcare technology and improving health outcomes for diverse communities.
