He has served as team physician for numerous high school and collegiate teams as well as the Junior Olympic Hockey Team. Dr. Raih has extensive experience with fracture care and has performed over 2000 hip and knee joint replacements.

Academically, Dr. Raih earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1969. He completed his internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado, followed by a residency in general surgery with the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals in 1973. He then went on to complete an additional residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in San Francisco, California 1976. Dr Raih volunteered for 15 years as a clinical instructor with the University of Minnesota Orthopedic Residency Training Program.

Dr Raih is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

With over 40 years of experience in his field, Dr. Raih was affiliated with Twin Cities Orthopedics, Abbott Northwestern Hospital and MN Health Fairview Southdale Hospital, and Gillette Children’s Hospital.

In good standing with a number of professional organizations, he is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Minnesota Orthopedic Society, the North American Arthroscopy Association, and the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
