Dr. Overly serves as the Program Director of Interventional Cardiology at University Cardiology, located within The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

With regard to his academic background, Dr. Overly graduated with his Medical Degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1999. He then went on to perform his internship and residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Furthering his training, he performed fellowships in both cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2006 and 2008, respectively. 

Helping patients maintain a heart-healthy life, the doctor is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In affiliation with several professional organizations, Dr. Overly is an esteemed member of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the American College of Cardiology (Fellow), and the Association of Black Cardiologists.

Holding an academic appointment, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine.

Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter based treatment of structural heart diseases. An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist with one to two years of additional education and training in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease as well as congenital (present at birth) and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting.

Happily married, Dr. Overly and his wife, Sara, a nurse practitioner, live in Knoxville. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading, playing basketball and tennis, traveling with his wife, and cheering for University of Kentucky Wildcats.
