Get to know Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Dr. Tracy Shevell, who serves patients in all of Connecticut and New York.
Dr. Shevell has been a practicing Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist for almost 20 years, and has been lucky enough to be a part of the journey for so many incredible women and their families. Her goal is to help empower women with evidence-based facts and enable them to let their doctors help them in the best way they can.
“I spent my career tirelessly working in my community’s hospital and developed a keen interest in maternal mental health care. Our system, though, has clearly become one where we need to do better for women in their reproductive years. I believe I have the tools to help to fix a broken system by acting as a liaison for women struggling with fertility, pregnancy issues or complications, scary diagnoses, or those who have anxiety and depression and don’t know where to turn. Through working with me, I hope women can not only be cared for by their busy doctors and specialists, but have a place to call home, a place to have a confidant who also happens to be an experienced, caring physician” expressed the doctor.
With a broad educational background, Dr. Shevell graduated with her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center. Finally, she completed her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is a subspecialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology that focuses on managing health concerns of the mother and fetus prior to, during, and shortly after pregnancy. Maternal-Fetal medicine specialists are physicians who subspecialize within the field of obstetrics. For pregnant women with chronic health problems or other complications during their pregnancy, MFM specialists work to keep them as healthy as possible while their bodies carry a pregnancy. They also care for women who face unexpected problems that develop during pregnancy such as early labor, bleeding or high blood pressure. Additionally, they help families when a baby is diagnosed prior to birth with a complication or the well-being of the pregnancy comes into question.
She began Blue Moon Perinatal to help reach more women and provide additional support throughout the journey. Given that her platform is virtual, she can see you from the comfort of your own home, and has evening and weekend availability.
