Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Troy S. Watson, who serves patients in Nevada.

Dr. Watson is a trusted, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders, sports-related injuries of the foot and ankle, and arthroscopy. Since starting his practice with Desert Orthopaedic Center in 2000, he founded The Foot & Ankle Institute and an educational website for patients, www.feetmd.com. 

The primary goals of the Institute are to provide the highest quality care in a compassionate environment with attention to patient education. Available to see patients in Las Vegas and Henderson at the Central, Southwest, and Henderson offices, Dr. Watson is dedicated to providing high-quality orthopaedic care. He treats all disorders of the foot and ankle, including trauma, tendon disorders, diabetes, nerve disorders, rheumatoid, osteoarthritis, heel pain, tumors, and amputations. Industrial injuries are seen regularly in his practice and every effort is made to provide timely reports to adjusters as well as return the rehabilitated worker to the job site.

Dedicated to staying up to date on the most advanced and highly effective treatment options, Dr. Watson is proud to utilize Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT) (PRP) (STEM CELLS) for patients who suffer from acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain. He also offers InternalBrace™ ligament augmentation, an innovative procedure for patients with chronic ankle instability.

Among his leadership and academic appointments, he serves as Director/President of the Desert Orthopaedic Research Foundation (since 2016), Secretary of the Institute of Orthopaedic Surgery – Board of Directors (since 2005), Adjunct Clinical Professor for Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Nevada School of Medicine (since July of 2006), and as an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Touro University Nevada, College of Medicine (since July of 2004).  In addition, Dr. Watson is the Program Director of Valley Hospital Medical Center Orthopaedic Surgery Residency.

A native of Southern California, Dr. Watson graduated with his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California. He attended Georgetown University School of Medicine where he obtained his medical degree in 1994. Thereafter, he completed his surgical internship at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1995. Following this, he went on to complete his orthopaedic training at Tulane University and Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

To pursue his interest in foot and ankle disorders, he was accepted to subspecialty training at one of the country’s premier fellowships. He spent one year at the OthoCarolina Charlotte, North Carolina studying foot and ankle disorders and treatments under the direction of Bob Anderson and Hodges Davis. During his fellowship, he served as the Consultant to the North Carolina Dance Theater as well as participated in the care of professional athletes, including the Carolina Panthers (NFL) and Charlotte Hornets (NBA).

This combined exposure gives Dr. Watson exceptional experience in dealing with sports-related injuries. On the local level, he has consulted for the Vegas Golden Knights, the Las Vegas Raiders and UNLV Athletics. Additionally, he established the Las Vegas Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Fellowship in 2013, helping to educate and train the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. 

A Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (FACFAS), the doctor is a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies, and the Alpha Omega AlphaMedical School Honor Society.

With an unwavering commitment to his speciality, he is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. 

In addition to having given over 200 academic presentations nationally and internationally, Dr. Watson has made numerous scientific presentations and published articles on disorders of the foot and ankle. He continues to educate other orthopaedic surgeons by participating as a faculty member in national conferences pertaining to the foot and ankle.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

On a more personal note, he and his wife, Judy, reside in Henderson and have twin boys (Skyler and Clayton) and a younger daughter (Chloe). His family is active in various sporting activities, church, and other community activities. Dr. Watson spends much of his free time staying fit with various activities including running, cycling, mountain biking, and weight lifting. He is most passionate about photography, which has remained his hobby since he was a child. He continues to capture images both locally and around the world as he travels with his family.

From a philanthropy standpoint, he and his family started a local shoe event for the underprivileged in 2006 which has grown year after year. Today, through a partnership with Zappos, the charity serves 1500-2000 individuals with shoes and socks in an annual event held just before Thanksgiving.
