A renowned cardiologist, Dr. Baber is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and serves as the Director of Interventional Cardiology and the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. He specializes in acute coronary syndromes, complex, high-risk coronary intervention, low-contrast PCI, and outcomes research.

Internationally prominent faculty, state-of-the-art facilities and new technology combine to make the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center a leader in education, research and patient care. It is one of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation with seven professional colleges – Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Graduate Studies.

A graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dr. Baber completed his residency in internal medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Mount Sinai Medical Center. During his fellowship training, he also earned a Master of Science degree in Biostatistics from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Maintaining fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI).

An enthusiastic researcher, Dr. Baber’s research interests include clinical and translational projects related to bleeding, thrombosis and platelet function. Most recently, he served as the Chair of the Clinical and Data Coordinating Center for the international, randomized TWILIGHT trial, which was published in the NEJM in 2019. 

Among his other roles, he is a frequent lecturer at international cardiology conferences, serves on the Editorial Boards of numerous peer-reviewed journals and teaches clinical trial design and biostatistics for the interventional cardiology board review course sponsored by the American College of Cardiology.

Prior to joining the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Baber served as the Director of Cath Lab Quality and Outcomes Research within the Cardiovascular Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
