Veronica J. Rooks, MD, FACR is making significant strides in pediatric radiology at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu HI, and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, California, where she combines her military experience with her extensive medical training to provide exceptional care for children. With a robust background in military medicine and an unwavering commitment to patient safety, Dr. Rooks ensures that families receive the most accurate and timely diagnoses possible.

Her impressive academic credentials include her current role as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiology, Division of Pediatric Radiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Rooks holds the position of Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Maryland and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Hawaii.

Her educational journey began at Gettysburg College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986, followed by a Master of Science in engineering degree from Duke University in 1988. Dr. Rooks received her Medical Degree from The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont in 1993. Her training included a residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in 1998 and a pediatric radiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital, completing it in 2000.

Board-certified in both diagnostic radiology with a certificate of added qualification in pediatric radiology by the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Rooks is an active member of the Society of Pediatric Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, the World Federation of Pediatric Imaging, Health4TheWorld, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, and the Hawaii Radiological Society.  As a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, she exemplifies commitment to advancing the field of radiology through education and innovation.

Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Rooks has received numerous accolades for her contributions to medicine and education. In 2018, she was honored with the University of Vermont Medical Alumni Association Service to Medicine and Community Award and the Jack O. Haller Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Society for Pediatric Radiology. Earlier recognitions include the Outstanding Teacher of the Year at Tripler Army Medical Center in 2013, and the Excellence and Innovation in Case Presentation Award in 2010. Dr. Rooks also earned the O2M3, Order of Military Medical Merit as well as “A” Designator from the US Army Surgeon General in 2010, the highest recognition for professional excellence in the Army Medical Department.

On a personal note, Dr. Rooks enjoys traveling in tandem with her husband, with Bhutan being her favorite vacation destination, a reflection of her adventurous spirit and passion for cultural exploration.
