An expert in minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Schimp serves as Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center & Chair of the Robotics/Minimally Invasive Surgical Quality Committee at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies in Orlando, Florida. The home of Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center is the state-of-the-art Charles Lewis Pavilion, a 220,000 square-foot structure completed in 2003. In addition to 60 private inpatient beds, the 10-story comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer center contains all ambulatory and other services required for cancer care from diagnosis through all phases of treatment and follow up. The multidisciplinary team includes board-certified surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, nurses, therapists, researchers, and counselors with a commitment to do everything possible to provide the highest level of quality and compassionate care to patients and their loved ones. 

Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies is dedicated exclusively to the unique healthcare needs of women and babies in a caring, family-centered environment. An extraordinary Orlando Health facility, it is home to leading physicians, surgeons and specialists, as well as one of the nation’s largest and most successful neonatal intensive care units. The physicians provide specialized care that covers all facets of women’s health, from comprehensive gynecological services and minimally invasive surgeries to obstetrics and high-risk pregnancies and births.

With more than two decades of industry experience to her credit, Dr. Schimp’s specialities include the care of women with gynecologic malignancies such as ovarian, fallopian tube, uterine, cervix, vaginal, and vulvar cancer. She incorporates surgical techniques that include fertility sparing procedures, chemotherapy, clinical trials, and radiation therapy.

Experienced in performing minimally invasive robotic surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System, she is an expert reviewer of other doctors performing robotic surgery through the C-SATS performance review and training program. 

Inspired to enter her field in order to take care of women, as she believes women in general are underserved, Dr. Schimp completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1994. Furthering her training, she completed her residencies in general surgery & obstetrics and gynecology at St. John/Oakland General Hospital and Hutzel Hospital/Wayne State University, respectively. Subsequently, she completed her fellowship in gynecologic oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Among her professional affiliations, she is a member of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. 

Attributing her success to her hard work and supportive collaborators, Dr. Schimp is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology & gynecologic oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The ABOG is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada.

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology. An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health. 

The author of chapters in two medical books, as well as numerous articles and case studies on cancer of the female reproductive organs, Dr. Schimp has presented at more than 50 seminars and conferences. She has received the Patient’s Choice Award and America’s Top Oncologists Award for several years, and has been named in the Best Doctors in America® and Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors.

Outside of practicing medicine, she enjoys doing fitness, playing the piano, reading, going to the theater, and the arts. Her favorite professional publication is Gynecologic Oncology.
