After an internship at the Duke University Medical Center, he completed a residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

With nearly half a century of experience to call upon, he provides expert treatments for patients of all ages, for a diverse range of conditions including depressive disorders, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, bi-polar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and addiction disorders.
Dr. Ballenger is one of the most experienced psychiatrists in South Carolina, and alongside his practice he also serves as a Professor in the department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine.
