The department maintains a nationally recognized oral and maxillofacial residency program and is an integral part of University Hospital’s Level 1 trauma center. It has a large and dynamic faculty, both full and part-time, who teach and pursue scholarly activity to advance our specialty. Pertaining to his academic career, Dr. Ziccardi earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University in 1985, followed by his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in 1989. Thereafter, he went on to obtain his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1993.
It was during this time, working with faculty in both the oral and maxillofacial surgery and neurosurgery departments, that he gained interest and experience. The following year, he completed his internship at the same educational venue, before going on to complete his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1995.
