He then completed a 5th Pathway Certificate at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1988, an internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Elmhurst in 1989, a residency in internal medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 1991, and a pre-residency fellowship at Tufts University- New England Eye Center in 1992. This was followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Interfaith Medical Center in 1996 and a fellowship in cornea and external disease under the supervision of Dr. James Aquavella, a world-renowned ophthalmology specialist, at the University of Rochester in 1997.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, he is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America. 

Licensed to practice medicine in Florida, Dr. Barish is affiliated with Delray Medical Center, JFK Medical Center – Florida, Bethesda Hospital East, and West Boca Medical Center.
